MERITA – where chamber Music, cultural hERI tage and TAlent meet is an online and offline platform that increases the visibility and circulation of emerging European string quartets by innovating and improving the sustainability of the music industry increasing access and participation in cultural activities promoting European cultural heritage strengthening connections between local and European culture, and between online and offline engagement.

Winner of the Creative Europe – European Platforms 2021 and co-funded by the European Union, the project’s development lasts 3 years and is run by 17 cultural institutions from 12 European countries. It involves 38 string quartets for a total of 152 artists.

Through the digital platform, MERITA will showcase artists, present cultural sites and historic houses, educational materials, networking and content for the public, panel of online and on-site activities, i.e. trainings, artistic residencies, transnational and international circulation of young artists, studies and research.

The platform also allows new audiences to be brought closer to classical music and places of historical interest. It aims to become a reference point for (young) chamber musicians and practitioners, forming the basis for a new and lasting business model.

The call for applications for the European project MERITA – where chamber Music, hERitage and TAlent meet – is now closed.

We have received 61 applications from professional string quartets coming from 27 European countries:

Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, The Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine.

The MERITA Artistic Committee will screen the applications and select the 38 string quartets to take part in the project.

The results of the selection will be announced on Wednesday 1st February 2023.

MERITA PLATFORM IS NOW ONLINE

The new European international project MERITA comes to life and, starting from July 28th 2023, the official website of MERITA – where chamber Music, cultural hERItage and TAlent meet is available online. Its main objective is to increase the visibility and mobility of emerging professional European string quartets, thus representing an important step forward for the European music industry.

The digital platform is the heart of all MERITA activities, becoming a reference area and promotional showcase for artists, presentation of cultural sites and historical houses, mapping of professionals in the sector, dissemination of training materials and content for the public, networking between cultural organizations across Europe.

MERITA responds to the new needs of the music industry by increasing access to and participation in cultural activities outside major cities, promoting European cultural heritage and strengthening the connections between local and international cultures, bringing new audiences closer to classical music in venues of high artistic interest.
